AREFLH is a partner of LOWINFOOD, a project that focuses on “Multi-actor design of low-waste food value chains through the demonstration of innovative solutions to reduce food loss and waste”. LOWINFOOD supports the reduction of the loss and waste in the European Union by demonstrating innovative solutions following a multi-actor approach along the entire value chain.
On February 24, 2025, the final LOWINFOOD event was organized by Austrian partners BOKU, Unverschwendet, and the Austrian Institute of Ecology at BOKU in Vienna.
The event highlighted four key innovations implemented in Austria to reduce food waste:
- CozZo app – a mobile application designed to help households minimize food waste.
- Plate Waste Tracker – educational programs and technical solutions aimed at reducing food waste in school dining halls.
- Unverschwendet’s surplus distribution model – an initiative that successfully repurposes surplus fruits and vegetables from production and processing.
- FoodTracks forecasting software – originally developed for bakeries in Germany, now also in use in Austria.
The event also featured a panel discussion, expertly moderated by Christian Pladerer from the Austrian Institute of Ecology, where representatives from policy, academia, and the food sector shared insights on the practical implementation of food waste prevention strategies.
The project representants extended their sincere gratitude to all participants for their engagement and contributions. They mentioned that they look forward to future collaborations in the ongoing fight against food waste!
