AREFLH is a partner of Waste4Soil project “Turning food waste into sustainable soil improvers for better soil health and improved food system”.

The project aims at developing applicable recycling technical pathways to transform Food Processing Residues (FPR) into improvers, through a circular, system and multi-actor approach. All food chain actors are involved at the regional level, thereby closing specific loops (nutrients, organic matter, water).

The first Living Labs (LL) activities of the project have started, they are organised by different partners.

On 24 January 2024 LAB University of Applied Science has organized the first Finnish LL workshop. It was dedicated to “mapping information of fish related side streams in the region, ongoing projects, and main networks”. The workshop was held in the Municipality of Asikkala, Päijät-Häme region in Finland.  During the lively and multiple discussion participants shared information and knowledge about the fish side streams in the region, the potential and challenges of the reuse, ongoing projects, and existing networks.

On 16 February 2024 University of Lubjana, KOTO and ZRS KOPER organised the Slovenian Living Lab workshop meeting in Istria, in the old palace Gravisi Tiepolo in Koper. The Slovenian Living-Lab will be focus on two Food Processing Residues types: olive-oil residues, and mixed residues (collected and treated together).
During the meeting the numerous participants showed an active interest in the project.
