Strengthening Farmers’ Position in the Agri-Food Supply Chain
On 3rd February 2025, Eriselda Canaj, AREFLH EU projects officer took part in the event “Strengthening Farmers’ Position in the Agri-Food Supply Chain” at the Committee of the Regions .
The meeting focused on the targeted amendments proposed by the European Commission on December 10, 2024, to the existing legal framework under the Regulation establishing a CMO for agricultural products and the new Regulation on cross-border enforcement against unfair trading practices.
These proposals aim to strengthen farmers’ position and restore trust among actors in the agri-food supply chain. Both initiatives directly reflect key recommendations from the Strategic Dialogue on the Future of EU Agriculture and address some of the sector’s most pressing challenges.
During the afternoon, rapporteurs Loredana Capone (regional Councillor of Puglia), Fabien Santini (Head of Unit - Governance of Agri-Food Markets at DG AGRI), Serafino Nardi (Head of Unit at the European Committee of the Regions) and Hélène Moraut (Policy Officer at the European Committee of the Regions), listened to the views of key stakeholders on this critical topic.
Stakeholders are invited to submit their opinions to the Commission for Natural Resources (NAT) Secretariat by February 24, 2025.
Next Steps:
• March 4, 2025 – First discussion and adoption of the draft opinion at the NAT meeting
• May 14-15, 2025 – Final adoption at the plenary session
This discussion marks an important step toward ensuring a more balanced, fair, and resilient agri-food supply chain in the EU.
